July 2016 Monthly Cover Squares - Free Planner Printable

UPDATE PLEASE NOTE: I recently learned that MAMBI changed the weekly box size of their newest release of the Big Happy Planners. All of the stickers designed on this blog under the Label BIG HAPPY PLANNER, were made using the dimensions of the original Stay Golden July 2016-December 2017 Big Happy Planner.

Hello again! Welcome back for another version of the Monthly Cover Squares.

This month I decided to go with a Nautical Theme instead of a 4th of July Theme because I realize that not everyone that uses my printables is from the US. Also, keep an eye out for the matching Sampler that will post this Friday. I will post a link HERE when it has posted.

I posted a preview of this on my Facebook Page and it got mixed reviews and I have come to realize over the last few days that I can't please everyone and this is my blog and I need to make things for me...that I like. You might not like this, but I do and that's all that matters. Also, if I'm truly honest, I place these monthly printables down and I don't even write on them 98% of the time. I don't use my Monthly Spread as a functioning part of my planner. Before I started making these, my months were bare and not used at all! I started making these to make my planners more cohesive and flow from page to page better. Also, someone mentioned that this printable is going to be hard to write on and my solution, and what I plan to use, is a white gel pen over the red and/or a gold and silver gel pen, and that's if I even write on this at all. In the comments, Krysten mentioned that she will just use a blue pen to write on the red and red pen for the rest. Another follower said she uses washi to write on and put over the darker areas. Thank you so much for your tips/suggestions. Or you can just use good old fashion stickers and sticker paper. I know I have a ton of that! Either way, you can use this printable and still have it be functional for those of you who rely on and use your monthly spreads.

As usual, I have made a set for the Vertical Erin Condren Life Planner and the Regular Happy Planner. This is my first attempt at making one for the Big Happy Planner and it barely fit on letter size paper, so there is no way to adjust this printable for an A4 size paper, so sorry to my followers on the other side of the globe who have this planner. :(

I decided to only do a PDF Overlay Version for this month. Someone complained that it was tedious placing down each individual square and that the boxes weren't the correct size, so I just eliminated the individual square option. So sorry to those of you who like this option, I might bring it back in the future. I used these printables in each planner that I own...to make damn sure they fit and they do and suit my needs just fine. (Pictures of my planners are at the bottom of this post)

A few things to Note: In designing these printables, I made them so they should cover the line all the way around the calendars on the planner page. Also, depending on the type of Happy Planner you use, you might end up having to cut off some of the top Header part of the printable (My sister says she has to do this and we each have a different older version of the Regular Happy Planner). So just keep these things in mind...

I use onlinelabels.com and have every kind of inkjet paper they offer in white and clear in the full back. For these printables, I used the Repositional White Matte Paper, because I have it and why not? You don't have to use this type of paper though. Any paper will do.

Here is a quick pictorial and some tips and tricks of what I figured out worked the best for me when I was applying them to my planner pages:

1. Cut around each of the images on the paper right to the colored line on the outside, leaving no white space.

2. If you are using a Happy Planner, you may have to use a scrap of the sticker paper you trimmed to cover up any designs printed on the calendar paper. Or feel free to use some cute washi to cover the design, but just make sure to lay it down first before you place down the overlay. If this will not bother you, then don't worry about it.

3. Slowly peel 1 inch of the backing off of the bottom of your sticker paper and use your scissors to trim of 1/4 -1/2 an inch of the backing. This will make maneuvering and lining up the bottom easier and make it easier to pull up the paper if you don't line it up perfectly the first time. (I didn't get it lined up in my Big Happy Planner, but it was my first attempt...I think I might lay down some skinny washi to cover that up if it ends up bugging me)

4. Place the bottom corner of your sticker paper down. I suggest using the corner closest to the disc/wire ring, and line it up using the bottom line and side line closest to the disc/wire rings printed on your planner page. These are the best lines I found to use for being able to determine where to lay down your sticker sheet.

5. When you have the bottom lined up where you want it to be, slowly start peeling up the rest of the backing with your right hand, using your left hand to smooth over the top of the sticker paper, making sure their is no bubbling or creasing in the paper.

6. You are finished!

Here is a preview of the available printables. I combined both of the pdf pages into one download and the links are below each set of pictures:

  1. Wow-I love it! I think a blue pen will work just fine on the red and a red pen will work great on the rest of it. Sorry you got so much static. You are correct -this is your blog and your free printables. You make stuff for yourself and are kind enough to share it with us. Thanks so much!

  3. WOW! Love this! You should do what you want to do and not let the nay-sayers bring you down. I like cutting all the squares and putting them down individually but I will survive if you design differently!! I can't imagine bitching at you for not doing it "my way".

    1. I love this comment so much! Thank you for supporting my decision. Maybe I will try and bring back the individual squares again in the future. I will have to take better, more accurate measurements of the boxes. Which planner do you use and when you use to lay the squares down, were they off? Any feedback from you would be appreciated.

  4. I like this one. Unfortunately there will always be those who complain. Rather than just moving on with life they must make it difficult for others. I usually use washi tape on my overlay to mark out timelines and then write on the washi tape for those who would like another idea on how to write on the darker coloured squares. :)
