Changing the Paper Size from Letter to A4 and A5 Size - Silhouette Video Tutorial

Hi guys. This video is for those of you who live in Europe who only have access to A4 size paper and not Letter Size.

I was contacted by a follower who was saying that in order to use my printables, she was having to cut up the files to print them on A4 and A5 paper. I said that I thought there was a way to possibly make it so she didn't have to chop up the printable. I said that I would make a video showing her how to do this. So here it it...

You will need to download the free Silhouette Studio Software to do this tutorial. You do not need to have the actual cutting machine or have in depth knowledge of the software either. Here is a link to the software download: http://www.silhouetteamerica.com/software

If you do try this out and it works for you, please leave a comment and let me know.

    1. Jessica I was reading your article on printing and registration marks. I am a newbie to Silhouette Software and I was having the hardest time with my silhouette reading the registration mark. Do you have the new cameo with the touch screen? After going back and forth with Silhouette help desk one of the managers finally told me that with the new touch screen cameo it doesn't read the registration marks if you adjust them. Once I left the marks at the original settings I never had that problem again. Do you have the touch screen cameo or the older one?

      1. I have the new touch screen. I have heard people say to leave the registration marks alone, but by doing that you have little to no area to work with. I have not had any problems with my registration marks reading since keeping images further away from the registration mark square at the top left of the page.

      2. Thanks Jessica I think my printer is also throwing it off. I have a HP photo series 5520 and when I go to print the scaling doesn't show. I forgot I have Adobe Pro so I am going to test your file by printing to Adobe where it does let me change the scale to 100% and see if that helps. I will be updating my printer eventually

      3. I had an HP Printer and switched to Canon and have never had any problems. Did it work when printing in Adobe Pro?

    2. It's not only Europe that has A4. Only North America has 8.5x11 inch "letter". The rest of the world has A4. I am going through your tutorial now, and I will ask my husband to print it for me on his work printer (I don't have a color printer at home).

      1. I tried the procedure in the video using your new Princess stickers, because I figured I might as well use something I wanted to print anyway. Some of the things came out looking really jagged around the edges. Especially the circles. The original PDF also has some problems (looking at it on the screen at 100%). Can you download it and check? Maybe the file was corrupted during upload?

      2. I tried the Mint & Brown stickers and they came out perfectly (no jaggies). The only thing is that the design space is a tiny bit too wide for A4, so I had to decide whether I wanted to sacrifice the ellies on the right side, or the first heart check banner on the left (and a tiny piece of the weekend sticker). Since you now know that you have followers who use A4, maybe keep that width in mind when you are designing. :-)

      3. Yeah. The Princess Sampler is the first one I have used A4 in the design. The Mint & Brown one definitely wasn't done on A4. Every Sampler I have done since the Princess one is done on the A4 design area. I will download the Princess one and check the lines. I always print and cut the file I upload to Google before I upload it to make sure it cuts fine. I will download it from my blog and check the circles and reply back with what I find.

      4. I just re-downloaded the silhouette files directly from my blog and my circles weren't jagged at all. I am on a Mac though. I did notice when I went to my sisters and looked at the files on her screen that the lines were all jacked up and didn't look like they do on my screen. When I look at the pdf on Google Drive, the circles look jagged like you are saying, but when I actually download the pdf to my computer, the lines are fine. Weird. Not sure what's going on there...

    3. When I open the PDF with the PDF viewer that is built into Windows 10 it looks fine. Yesterday I opened it with Acrobat and it looked jaggy. Today as well. Maybe I need to update my version of Acrobat. No clue. LOL!

    4. Yesterday I 've got my Silhouette Portrait and I've been printing and cutting all day long. But not all the time the image or whatever was nicely cut. Then I saw that I've working on letter size, but overhere we use A4. By googling changing letter size into A4, I came overhere. I've used your tips (and some lovely freebies) and for now everything is working fine!
Thank you for making this video and your lovely stickers!
